Financial RebellionReferral program concept
Credit union referrals

Recruit a Rebel

The goal is financial education for everyone. Every credit union that joins puts real money skills in front of thousands more members, and it pays the credit union back. A referral program spreads that one peer at a time, because credit unions trust each other more than they trust a pitch.

Why it matters

Most people are one surprise away from trouble

And most never learned how money works. That's the gap every credit union that joins helps close.

37%

of U.S. adults couldn't cover a surprise $400 expense with cash or savings. 12% couldn't pay it at all.

Federal Reserve, SHED 2026
47%

is the average score on basic personal finance questions. The lowest in 10 years. Gen Z scored 38%.

TIAA Institute-GFLEC P-Fin Index 2026
59%

of workers say they're stressed about their finances, and it's hurting their sleep, health and work.

PwC Employee Financial Wellness Survey 2026
$948

is what the average adult says money mistakes cost them in 2025. That's $246 billion across the country.

For members

Education that moves the needle

A weekly newsletter they actually open (74% average), a full course, a podcast and calculators. Less money stress, more confidence, real wealth over time.

For the credit union

Education that pays for itself

Their own section in every issue puts their products in front of engaged members every week, and the dashboard shows who's reading and clicking. That's the ROI story a referrer can tell a peer.

How credit unions can help

We need your help spreading the word

You already have the trust. Every person you send our way gets real financial education, and every one of them is reading about your credit union each week. Here are three ways to get more people involved.

01
Your members

Tell your own members

Put the sign-up link in your member email, your app, your website and your lobby. We built the posts, the flyer and the QR code for you. They're in your portal.

02
Your SEGs

Bring in your SEGs

Every employer group you serve is a room full of people who need this. Add a SEG in the Your SEGs tab and you get their own link, QR, flyer and HR email, plus a count of who joined.

03
Other credit unions

Refer a peer credit union

You know credit unions we don't. One intro from you does more than any pitch from us. Their members get the same education, and you get rewards for yours.

Today

How the kit works now

The Gmail draft to Todd. Everything runs through inboxes, and the only thing we can see is a click on the video.

1
Todd

Sends Juli the kit

A note, a forwardable email, a short text version and her own video link.

2
Juli at USF

Copies, edits, sends

She fills in [Name] and [Credit Union] and sends it to a peer from her inbox.

3
Peer CU

Watches the video

The link is tagged usf, so we see the click in GA4. That's all we see.

4
Todd

Waits for a reply

If they're interested they reply to Juli, she connects them, and Todd takes the call.

Three hand-offsTodd to Juli to peer to Juli to Todd. Every hop is a place it stalls.
Homework for JuliShe has to find the email, swap the brackets and remember to do it.
Nobody closes the loopJuli never hears what happened, so she has no reason to do it again.
The idea

One form, one tracker, one personal page

Put referrals in the partner portal Juli already uses, next to Your SEGs. Same engine we just built: a tracked link per person, counts that update on their own.

1
Juli

Types a name

Peer's name, their credit union, an email. Ten seconds.

2
Juli

Hits send

Her email app opens with everything filled in. It still comes from her, which is why it gets opened.

3
Peer CU

Lands on their page

"Juli at USF sent you this." Her quote, the video, a gift, a button to book Todd.

4
Peer CU

Books a call

Straight onto Todd's calendar. No reply chain.

5
Everyone

Juli sees it move

Sent, watched, call booked, signed. Each step emails her a thank-you.

Financial education your members actually use

"Our members open it every week, and our products are right there in it. It's the easiest win we've had in member education."

2:30 · What your credit union gets
Because Juli sent you: your launch comes with a free live money session for your members, hosted by Todd.

The reward

Give both sides something, never cash

Every reward is more financial education for their members, not anything for Juli personally. That's what keeps it clear of the referral fee rules she raised, and it's stuff Todd already does.

1
Intro sent

A shout-out to their credit union in that week's partner section. "Thanks, USF."

2
Call booked

A podcast guest seat for someone from their credit union.

3
They join

A free live money session for their members with Todd, or 500 FR books for their branches.

3+
Founding Rebel

Three joins puts them on the Founding Rebel wall on /credit-unions/, top of their state, for good.

For the referrer

Bragging rights they can show their board

Free sessions and books are member education they'd pay for anyway. The wall is public proof they lead.

For the new credit union

A welcome gift with a name on it

"Because Juli sent you" makes the gift feel personal, and it's the reason to book the call this week instead of someday.

Even easier

Three ways to make it almost no work

The fewer words a referrer has to write, the more referrals we get. My pick is the first one.

01

"Just introduce us"

Juli types a name and ticks "you can say I sent you." That's it. Todd sends the email himself, mentioning her. Zero writing for her, and we control the pitch.

My pick

02

A QR card for conferences

CU people meet at chapter meetings and conferences. A business card with Juli's QR on the back. Hand it over, the scan counts as her referral.

03

Ask at the happy moment

When a partner gets their monthly report with a good open rate, the email ends with "Know a credit union that should see this?" and one button.

Before we build it: Todd and Juli should confirm member-facing rewards are fine where cash isn't. And we need a booking link for Todd's calendar. The build itself reuses the Your SEGs tab, so it's a few hours, not a few weeks.
